What's the difference between a book coach and an editor?
BOOK COACHING is a high-touch relationship whereby the coach and writer focus on the writer's WIP (work in progress), or discuss the feasibility of a potential project, and work out an actionable time-table and plan to accomplish set goals. The focus is on developing a coherent structure that aligns with the writer's vision, and to adjust and solidify that vision as clarity emerges through the process. Attention to craft occurs on a big-picture level as well as on a deeper, character-driven journey, and each exchange will reveal questions to explore going forward into the next exchange.
DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING is a good fit once the writer has a clear sense of the direction of the book and needs help refining or resetting on a draft level. A full developmental edit will expose weaknesses in structure, plot holes, character arc flaws and opportunities to exploit going forward.

HELP ME GET GOING! - Initial 30 minute phone/zoom call - Weekly coaching: 10 double-spaced pages exchanged each week over a six-week period with tracked comments & questions - Each exchange will include actionable suggestions & assignments in service to stated goals - One wrap-up & next steps 30-minute call at end of the 6-week period - $750 EDITING OPTION #1:
OPENING CHAPTER/SHORT STORY (UP TO 15 DOUBLE-SPACED PAGES) - Inline comments - Brief editorial letter that covers initial impressions and suggestions -30-minute zoom post edit - $300 |
BOOK COACHING OPTION #2
NOVEL INTENSIVE! INCLUDES: - DEV EDIT for your full-length (up to 90k words) manuscript followed by coaching over a six-month period - Each exchange will include revised action plan in service to stated goals - Once a month 30-minute check-in call - $4,200 (three payment installments) EDITING OPTION #2:
FULL DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT - Initial 30 minute phone/zoom call - Big picture edit + inline comments based upon complete read-through - Editorial letter (several page summary) - 3 - 4 week turn-around (depending on length of ms) - Follow-up 30-minute phone/zoom call post-edit - .04 per word (eg: 50,000 words = $2,000) |

I'M STUCK! - 30-minute phone/zoom call to begin - Review of synopsis and opening 3 chapters - Concrete suggestions for moving forward - Note, this is a consultation - no tracked comments on the doc itself, 72-hr turnaround - Can serve as a starting place should the writer engage in other Words in a Hurry services, and can be deducted from the cost of full manuscript service options - $250 ADD-ON & A LA CARTE ITEMS
- 30 minute phone/zoom call - $70 - 60 minute phone/zoom call - $120 - Query or flap-jacket copy consultation (up to 500 words) - $200 - Misc chapters/prose/short stories/essays reviewed with track changes/editorial analysis at .03/word in addition to the initial $100 fee.
